Our business history
The Genesis Society was founded in 1987. The formation of The Genesis Society, a not-for-profit 501(C)3 corporation was for the purpose of educating and counseling individuals, groups, organizations, corporations, and the business community. The Genesis Society is a local organization with a strong reputation for cooperative projects of public education.
OUR TEACHING STAFF
David Alkalay, Ph.D., energy healer; certified nutritionist trained in Western and Ayurvedic nutrition; certified bio and neuro-feedback therapist; Past Life Regression guide; therapeutic and pastoral counselor; biosyntonic energy work; yoga therapist and yoga teacher trained in Kundalini, Tantra and Kriya yoga traditions.
Corinna
Bartra, Corina
Bartra leads our kirtan program. She is an initiate of various teachings
and yogic traditions.
She is an internationally certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and
works with the chakra system.
She is also an inspirational singer from
Peru
and a devoted practitioner of Nada, (sound yoga) who has recorded several
outstanding CD’s.
Sensei
Lorenzo Tosado,
Chief Instructor of WTKO Brooklyn and WTKO Queens, has been a student of
Karate for over 30 years, beginning as a young teenager.
He has been successfully teaching traditional Shotokan Karate for
over 20 years, with emphasis on self defense and self discipline.
His training includes full contact
fighting, as well as, defense against weapons.
He has participated in numerous competitions, typically finishing
in first or second place.
Sensei Tosado has traveled widely, including recent visits to Japan
to study and further his training in traditional Karate.

PAYMENT & REGISTRATION FEE
FULL WORKSHOPS & ONGOING CLASSES
There will be a non-refundable $10 registration fee per person. This fee
is only required once per catalog. A minimum of 50% payment toward the
class fee, and the full registration fee must be paid in order to reserve
a space. Full payment is required before the first session. The
registration fee is waived for Genesis Society members.
SINGLE EVENING EVENTS,
HALF-DAY & MINI-WORKSHOPS
Full payment is required at the time of registration. There is no
additional registration fee.
LONG-TERM PROGRAMS
Special payment plans are available for long-term programs.
HOW TO REGISTER
ACCEPTABLE PAYMENT FORMS:
For payments made in advance or at the Genesis Society/Tree of Life, we
accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, checks with ID, and cash.
Checks should be made out to The Genesis Society.
BY MAIL:
We must receive your payment to later than one week prior to the event.
Address the envelope to the attention of the Registration Department.
BY PHONE:
Phone reservations must be made with credit card. Call 718-544-5997.
Registration hours are: Mon-Thursday: 10am -8:30pm. Friday: 10:00 am –
4:00pm.
Sun: 10:00am-6:00pm
IN PERSON:
Advance purchases may also be made at the Genesis Society/Tree of Life
during the above hours. All acceptable payment forms may be used.
AT-DOOR PURCHASES
Subject to availability, events may be purchased at the door. Please call
ahead to determine whether an event is sold out. Please plan on arriving
at least 30 minutes prior to the start time of the event in order to make
your purchase. All seating is general admission and not assigned.
REFUND POLICY
SINGLE EVENING EVENTS, HALF-DAY &
MINI-WORKSHOPS OR WALKING TOURS
There are no refunds or course credits.
FULL WORKSHOPS, AND ONGOING CLASSES
Refunds are available minus a handling fee* if you cancel up to two weeks
prior to the first day of the program. Course Credits are available minus
a handling fee* if you cancel up to 48 hours prior to the first day of the
program. Course Credit is valid for one year, and may be applied to
courses or memberships only.
*HANDLING FEE
$15 for programs costing up to $250 and $35 for programs costing over
$250.
No refunds or credits will be given if you cancel less than 48 hours prior
to the first day of a program, or if you do not attend a program.
LONG-TERM PROGRAMS & CONFERENCES
These refund policies do not apply to Long-Term Programs or conferences.
If you start a Long-Term Program and decide not to continue, no credit or
refund will be given. If you begin a payment plan, and choose not to
continue, you must notify the Registration Department in writing, and pay
for all classes attended.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS
The Genesis Society/Tree of Life reserves the
right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. Registrants
will be notified by phone at least 24 hours prior to the event. A full
refund will be issued via the credit card originally charged, or by check
in the case of a cash or check payment.
SCHOLARSHIPS & DISCOUNTS
Partial scholarships are available for most
Genesis Society/Tree of Life programs and are awarded on the basis of
need. Applications may be obtained by phone at 718-544-5997. Scholarship
applications must be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the first day of
the program.
MEMBER DISCOUNTS
Genesis Society/Tree of Life members help sustain our work. They receive
discounts on most programs (indicated at the end of each program
description) and do not pay the registration fee required for workshops
and on-going classes.
STUDENT/SENIOR DISCOUNTS
Full-time students, and/or senior citizens (65 or over) are entitled to a
10% discount on the non-member price for Full Workshops or Ongoing
Classes. Proper ID must be presented. There are no student/senior
discounts for Single Evening Events, Half-Day & Mini-Workshops, or
Walking Tours.
GROUP DISCOUNTS
Groups of 5 or more are entitled to a 15% discount, and groups of 10 or
more are entitled to a 20% discount off the non-member price of any event.
In order to qualify, you must register all parties at once and pay in full
at that time.
